The book, “Quilts of Virginia: The Birth of a Nation Through the Eye of a Needle” documents some of the interesting quilts and quiltmakers of Virginia. This talk highlights some of the interesting finds in this search through time in Virginia.

Civil War Quilts

This tragic part of American history continues to fascinate. Learn what kinds of quilts were made during this time and how quiltmaking was affected by the War.

Hit Parade of Quilting—(workshop)

See what the Hits of the day were through a hands-on examination of over 200 years of quilts. Learn ways to identify the quilting Oldies and Goodies: the styles, techniques, and fabrics that help place a quilt in a certain time period. Consider how quilts from the past have influenced our quilting today. Participants may bring one quilt each for examination and discussion (not appraisal).

Playing with Circles—(workshop)

There are many ways to work with circles on your quilts. Play with different techniques and experiment to see which you like and which work best for a project you might have in mind.

Based on the book by Kumiko Sudo, make a small gift container that is a gift in itself and learn about this charming Japanese tradition.

Create an interesting fabric window to showcase a favorite fabric or block
